5 Bookish Things I want to do when I get a Job! #Connect5Friday

Yay, even after giving that disastrous placement exam I am still hoping to get a job! I guess there is no limit to my optimism.

Hi guys, welcome! So, as you people already know I am currently in my final year of Engineering, that means I am appearing for different company exams. Although, I most probably would opt for higher studies instead of joining, but the exam for the higher studies line I am opting for is really difficult, so I not at all sure if I will be able to crack the exam. Anyway, even if I don’t end up working now, I will definitely do it two years later, hence why not fantasize about it now. So, for this week’s Connect 5 Friday post I have decided to talk about 5 Bookish things I want to do when I get a job.

1. Scribd Subscription

I know I know that Scribd is cheap, and most probably a very good option for a college student. But it is my parents. I don’t think they will appreciate me spending any more money on books especially if that will give me access to a lot of books at once. They will just think I am wasting my time, because apparently now I will be focusing all of energy and all 24 hrs of my day on my newly acquired books. Yay, don’t want to fight that fight, I am just too tired, it is easier to just wait for a job. Actually because I am not earning till now, they keep an eye on all the purchases I make. And I am not blaming them, I know they just want the best for me, want me to succeed and want me to *nijer paya darate* (to quit being dependent on other people by getting a good job), so any purchase they think is going to take even a minute from my study time, is wrong. Like I said it is just easier to get a job.

2. Start a New Blog Post Series

Actually this idea has been on my mind almost ever since I started my blog. I want to start a bi-monthly series, where I will talk about Indian Authors, I want to host interviews with them and get them to write various guest posts on my blog. The only reason I have not yet started doing this is because I just don’t have time. I am barely maintaining my blog. Time is a really big constraint in my life. I spend all my day studying right now, with only a 2-3 hours at max very week kept aside for blogging and a few hours for reading. So, there is no way I can start this blog series now. Look, maybe I will be more busy when I start my job, but I guess this constant pressure and the guilt of not devoting every waking hour to study so that I could land a good job or crack that exam will be gone. There will at least be peace in my mind.

3. Buy a Book Box

I have talked about this before as well, about how I want to buy a book box. But the problem is my parents, who will go crazy on me if I spend 1000rs on a single book. I know there are a lot of merch in these, which is why it costs so much. But they will just think they are useless items. Even if they are useful like mugs or stuff, they will just say you can buy them for a far lesser price in any store. Yay, no they don’t care it has some bookish quote, or it looks like a bookish character, it is all waste of money. WHY ARE MY PARENTS LIKE THIS!!!! It is just that they don’t understand how much these things mean to me, but obviously these are not things I will die if I won’t get. So, it is okay, I can wait *internally crying*!

4. Actually finish a week-long readathon

My average speed is one book per day, so you can imagine completing a week long readathon is like a figment of my wildest dreams. The constraint here also is the same, time. I just don’t have time. Hopefully when I get a job, atleast I will have a little more time to spare.

5. Sign Up for More Blog Tours

The problem about blog tours is also time. But it is different. After participating in three blog tours I have realised that maybe blog tours are just not right for me right now. With my placements and exam prep and just the plain stress and anxiety that comes free with these, my life has become very uncertain. Sometimes, it is not just lack of time, sometimes it is that I am just not in the right state of mind to read. Maybe I am reeling from a bad mock or a failed placement test, and this is happening a lot now a days. I already had to walk out of two tours, because I couldn’t finish the books on time. So, I have decided that I won’t sign up for more than one blog tour for each month till at least Feb of next year. Hopefully within this time, at least the placement and exam related *jhamela* will be over. But then also, as long as I am in studying phase, I seriously need to reduce my blog tours, to only 2 per month.
